Victoria Branch

Our Victoria branch supports innovative projects aimed at providing opportunities for girls and women throughout Vancouver Island. Since its inception in 2001, the Victoria branch has set up programs and opportunities in our four priority areas of education, leadership development, economic security and safety that have helped hundreds of women and girls throughout the region. The Victoria branch conducts an annual volunteer-driven fundraising, All About Girlfriends™ which attracts business women and community leaders from the community to a fun, social evening filled with networking opportunities and a collaborative appreciation of the mission, mandate and values of the Minerva Foundation.

Volunteers Required for All About Girlfriends™ (AAG)

This year, All About Girlfriends™ (AAG) our annual fundraiser and silent auction will be on October 6^th 2010 at the Alex Goolden Hall. We’re very excited about this event and this year there is some great entertainment lined up with Ivan Sayers, a noted Fashion Historian. Through humour and facts, Ivan will review BC’s history of women’s wardrobes through the ages. Volunteer opportunities at this event are:

1. Silent Auction Committee members:

15 volunteers required
Time commitment: 4 – 20 hours depending upon your availability

Join this group of ambitious volunteers and help us solicit and collect excellent silent auction items. Last year we raised almost $15,000 and we’re hoping to match or do better.

2. Event volunteers:

15 – 20 volunteers
Time commitment: 6 – 8 hours including some fun pre-work and then working at the event

With lots of help in all areas including registration, setup, fashion show, designing the layout of the silent auction and general assistance throughout the event, we will make it a memorable night for all to enjoy!

The proceeds of the fundraiser this year will enable us to offer to Victoria women our Leadership Development program Follow a Leader™. This is Minerva’s Workplace Experience Program that pairs emerging leaders with accomplished leaders.

Our Brand Story

It is said that both Neptune and Minerva competed for the rights to the City of Athens. It was determined that whoever devised the gift most useful to mortals would be granted the city as their own. Neptune created the horse and Minerva created the olive Minerva’s gift won the city. Minerva’s useful gift of the olive offered an ongoing source of food, work and a sustainable, healthy life for the community.

We have incorporated the olive leaf into our new brand identity as it is a symbol of our work – work that permanently changes lives and creates community.
