Please note that all Minerva Foundation awards will be granted to female residents of British Columbia who have demonstrated financial need and academic proficiency and are enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution in BC (unless otherwise stated in the award description).  Preference will be given to candidates who meet at least one of the following criteria:

Single mothers who are advancing their education
Mature women returning to the workforce after a long absence
Women in non-traditional fields of study or post-graduate studies
Immigrant and aboriginal women and women with disabilities

Alexandra Thorpe's Story

Description: These Minerva Foundation Awards in honour of Alexandra Thorpe will be made available to women in financial need to pursue their educational goals.  The award recipients must meet BC Housing's overall bursary eligibility criteria.  Further, women who live in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and who have overcome significant barriers in their lives which hindered their educational pursuits, including single mothers and women in a recovery program, may be given priority.

Description: This Minerva Foundation Award will be made available to regular full-time or part-time employees of publicly funded healthcare facilities on the North Shore (e.g. Lions Gate Hospital, Cedarview Lodge, Kiwanis Care Centre, community and mental health program). Candidates should be a woman in the field of Nursing and a resident of BC, and consideration will be given to the criteria outlined at the top of this page.

Description: The Minerva Foundation, through the generosity of Lis and Bruce Welch, have established an award to recognize the leadership work of young women who, as a result of attending the Learning to Lead program, go on to apply what they have learned to their school, their workplace or their community.  Recipients will be announced at the 2008 Learning to Lead program.
