Volunteers Required for Victoria Chapter

By admin, June 02nd, 2010

This year, All About Girlfriends™ (AAG) our annual fundraiser and silent auction will be on October 6th 2010 at the Alex Goolden Hall. We’re very excited about this event and this year there is some great entertainment lined up with Ivan Sayers, a noted Fashion Historian. Through humour and facts, Ivan will review BC’s history of women’s wardrobes through the ages. Volunteer opportunities at this event are:

 1. Silent Auction Committee members:

  • 15 volunteers required
  • Time commitment:         4 – 20 hours depending upon your availability

Join this group of ambitious volunteers and help us solicit and collect excellent silent auction items.  Last year we raised almost $15,000 and we’re hoping to match or do better.

 2. Event volunteers:

  • 15 – 20 volunteers
  • Time commitment:         6 – 8 hours including some fun pre-work and then working at the event

With lots of help in all areas including registration, setup, fashion show, designing the layout of the silent auction and general assistance throughout the event, we will make it a memorable night for all to enjoy!

The proceeds of the fundraiser this year will enable us to offer to Victoria women our Leadership Development program Follow a Leader™. This is Minerva’s Workplace Experience Program that pairs emerging leaders with accomplished leaders.

To volunteer, please contact Tania at the Minerva Foundation at 604-683-7635 or admin@theminervafoundation.com

Minerva Looks to Future Events

By admin, April 16th, 2010

With the 10 year anniversary of Minerva fast approaching in 2011 it is the perfect time to reflect on how Minerva has helped you, and to in turn look to how you can help other women who have found themselves in similar positions to you. Perhaps they need help with their Education, or have been out of work and could benefit from taking part in the Minerva Helping Women Work™ program? If you want to help and ‘pass it along’ then please contact me at carrieanng@theminervafoundation.com to discuss further.

Lastly the year would not be complete without our Women In Luncheon, and this year we are thrilled to confirm that the luncheon will honour Women In Natural Resources (WINR)! We want your nominations for the women you think are deserving of being recognized for their excellence, leadership and philanthropy. Nominations forms will be available through our website from June so please check back then and nominate your WINR! There are also some great sponsorship opportunities available for this luncheon and please contact me on the above e-mail address if you want to discuss this further. Tickets for the lunch which is being held at the Four Seasons Hotel will be on sale in September 2010 through our website.

Thanks to everyone who generously gives their time and/or funds to help continue to empower women and girls through British Columbia! With your help we can change lives for the better for today, tomorrow and the future.

Chastity Davis Torchbearer for Minerva and Bell

By admin, January 26th, 2010

On February 12th, 2010, the first day of the XXI Olympic Games, Chastity Davis, Combining Our Strength™ (COS) Council member, carried the Olympic torch on behalf of the Minerva Foundation and Bell!

Chastity is a proud member of the Tla’amin Nation located in beautiful Powell River, BC. While holding down a demanding job as a Key Accountant Manager, Aboriginal Sector, at BC Hydro, Chastity still finds time to volunteer with Minerva as a member of the COS Council, as Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee for Learning to Lead™ COS, and as Co-Chair of the Curriculum Committee for Learning to Lead™ COS. Through her volunteer work, this remarkable woman donates hundreds of hours for the purpose of empowering Aboriginal women to lead and helping to bring Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal women together to help build stronger communities.

We at the Minerva Foundation are so proud to call Chastity our friend, and we are honoured to have her as a beautiful Minerva woman.
