2010 marks the fifth year of Women In, our annual luncheon to celebrate and honour women for their excellence in leadership and philanthropy in a chosen field. This year we are honouring Women In Natural Resources.

Tickets are now on sale for this luncheon and can be purchased through Minerva’s website here. Come and celebrate with our three honourees! Hear from two outstanding Minerva protégées. Be part of a fabulous luncheon to honour and celebrate all women in the Natural Resources field.

Our nomination process is still open, and you can nominate your Women In Natural Resources today! Please see the complete application form and nomination criteria.

Nominations will close at 4.30pm on Friday 24th September 2010, with the three chosen honourees being announced in early November. Please note that the Natural Resources industry is defined for these awards to be the energy, forestry and mining industry, including persons producing energy or extracting forest products or minerals, regulators, consultants, equipment and service suppliers and academics and others contributing to that industry. It is not intended to include the agriculture, animal or fishery industries.

All About Girlfriends™: A History of Leading Through Style is your chance to help empower Victoria’s future leaders and have fun doing it. On Wednesday October 6^th 2010 beginning at 5:00 pm, join The Minerva Foundation for B.C. Women along with local businesses and tomorrow’s leaders as we bring you an afternoon that will put the business suit in perspective.

Fashion is the focus but women are the foundation as the Minerva Foundation for BC Women Victoria Chapter presents an afternoon that promises to be fun and fabulous and will bring together women to learn, connect and inspire each other.

This event features noted fashion historian Ivan Sawyer, a live and silent auction, refreshments and will be hosted by Ocean 98.5’s Forbes and Marshal morning team. Join us as we gather to learn about mentoring and hear from those whose lives have been infected with the spirit of women helping women

All about Girlfriends ™: a History of Leading through Style presented by Accenture features the collection of B.C. fashion historian Ivan Sayers. Considered to have one of the best collections of vintage clothing and fashion accessories in Canada, Ivan is a passionate student of style with an assemblage of artefacts that date back 1650. He fuses humour with style during his presentation and will be a highlight of a packed and exciting event which will also include our incredible silent auction.

I first started volunteering in 2004 because I was intrigued by the Minerva Foundation’s mission to inspire and empower girls and women to reach their full potential in life. What I discovered was that when women connect with each other for a purpose, they have the power to make things happen and to change lives. Through my continued involvement, not only have I been able to make a positive difference for other women, my own life has been immeasurably enriched by the women and girls I’ve met through the Foundation.
