Minerva Foundation for
BC Women Anniversary Celebration
Vancouver - On February
13, 2002, the Board of Directors for the
Minerva Foundation hosted an event to celebrate
their first anniversary and to report on
the tremendous progress made during this
past year.
The honourary patron for the event was
The Honourable
Iona V. Campagnolo, Leiutenant-Governor of
BC, and the Honourary host was Dr. Martha
Piper, President of the University of British
Columbia. The celebration featured a special performance
by the Silk Road Ensemble. More that 250
women from the BC professional community
were in attendance.
Dr. Martha Piper delivered an inspired
speech honouring the attributes of the
goddess Minerva and relating them to the
responsibility we
all have. To quote her, "You are the key
individuals who are supporting women in their
respective journeys; in Minerva's eyes, you are
the Jupiters from whence she sprang, fully grown,
and fully dressed".
