Planned Giving Opportunities

Bequests: Make a gift of cash or property by including the Minerva Foundation for BC Women as a beneficiary in your Will. It’s one of the simplest planned gifts to arrange and it can significantly reduce the tax paid by your estate.

Life Insurance: You can make a larger gift than you might expect possible by naming the Minerva Foundation for BC Women as the owner and beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy. In certain circumstances, the premiums you pay may qualify for a donation tax receipt. When you transfer ownership of an existing policy to the Minerva Foundation for BC Women, you may receive a donation tax receipt for the cash surrender value. A gift of life insurance is separate from your estate and has no effect on its assets.

Gift-in-kind: A gift-in-kind is a gift of property such as real estate, securities, artwork, jewellery or collectibles. After an independent appraisal, the Minerva Foundation for BC Women will be able to issue you, in most circumstances, a donation tax receipt. Â In some cases, you can receive a tax benefit and continue to use the gift during your lifetime.

Endowment Fund: An endowment fund is a donation that is invested, with the earnings generated on the principal used to support the Minerva Foundation for BC Women’s work. You can let the Minerva Foundation for BC Women decide where funds are most needed, or you can establish a fund to support one of these four mandates: Education, Leadership Development, Economic Security and Safety. If you desire, your gift to the Minerva Foundation for BC Women can be named in your honour in recognition of your support or, you may choose to name your gift in memory of a special person.

Charitable Remainder Trust: Your gift of cash or other property is used to establish a trust. You, or someone designated by you, receives the income from the trust, and you will receive an immediate donation tax receipt based upon your life expectancy for the remainder. The Minerva Foundation for BC Women receives whatever remains in the trust after your death.
